Server Movements

My term (and the following holiday in Graz, Austria) has now finished. So before I get straight back to working for my course again I’ll try and shove in as much other stuff as I possibly can.

During this brief period of a couple of days, things are going to change here a little, but hopefully nobody will notice. The site was down for a couple of hours yesterday whilst my Linode, on which the site runs, was migrated to a London server.

Now that it’s running much closer to home (not that I wouldn’t have done it anyway), I think it’s time for an upgrade. So at some point today I’m going to shut down the Linode for a bit whilst I install the latest Ubuntu server and configure it for go.

Then to round off the bundle I’m going to give google apps a go. Seems like a better option than spending crazy amounts of time to configure a mail server to use all of my limited RAM, so why not?

What's Going on Here

As the second post on this new site I thought I should quickly explain as to it’s purpose, and what will be happening with it. This site has changed completely more frequently than I’ve ever written any content for it, it’s lack of content and other drastic changes in style and purpose have left it completely useless.

In an attempt to resolve this and make it useful, I am now just going to use this site as my general purpose web presence. A blog for me to talk about my interests (even if I’m just talking to myself). A nice place to look at my photography and web design, and listen to my music (if I ever dare record any). All this as well as some form of aggregation of my other online content (twitter / last.fm / etc.). With web Design having gone from a job option to a hobby for me I want to keep this site looking reasonably tasty – but it’s about time that some content came first.

Anyway I shall call this a day for now, but expect this site to be fleshed out fully over the coming weeks.
